OUR HISTORY

AT THE BEGINNING WAS AN IDEA

The brothers Alfons (* 18.7.1906) and Karl Knauf (* 27.3.1909) are born in Lorraine, which at that time still belongs to the German Reich. Their father Matthias Knauf initially worked as a marker separator in the mining industry and later as a climber. Following this tradition, Alfons and Karl Knauf study mining in Berlin at the end of the 1920s.

1930 - 50s

1932: Dr. Alfons and Karl Knauf acquire mining rights for a gypsum pit in Schengen (Luxembourg) and open a gypsum plastering plant in Perl on the Moselle.

1949: A new gypsum plastering plant is built in Iphofen, Lower Franconia.

1958: Construction of the first plasterboard plant in Iphofen.

1960

1960: Knauf introduces the first plaster pre-mixed dry mortar for gypsum plaster into the market with the adhesive plaster Rotband.

1964: Knauf develops the first machinable gypsum plaster with the MP75, setting a standard that is still valid today.

1980

1980: Knauf introduces the first anhydrite-based self-leveling screed.

1981: The special gypsum board Knauf Fireboard extends the range of services of drywall construction in high-quality fire protection.

1982: The joint filler Knauf Uniflott facilitates the filling of plasterboard and thus sets a new standard. At the same time, Knauf develops the half-round flattened edge on plasterboard (HRAK), which can be filled without joint tape.

1985: Introduction of the adhesive and reinforcing mortar SM700 for the bonding and reinforcement of all Knauf WARM-WAND systems. In its further development, the SM700 pro is today considered a mineral, universal all-rounder for the façade and the base.

1990

1993: The introduction of the first Knauf firewall increases the performance of modern drywall construction.

1998: The thermal bridge-free base connection Quix ensures the perfect and easy-to-install termination of Knauf WARM WALL systems.

1998: The waterproofing membrane Katja Sprint provides the floor covering with the perfect seal against moisture from below.

1998: The Knauf Sliding Door System Krona easily integrates sliding doors into any Knauf stud wall, creating space for new construction or modernization.

2000-2005

2000: The design elements "Lichtkeil" and "Formkörper" for the Knauf WARM WALL systems open up new design possibilities for the thermally insulated façade.

2004: With the precast floor screed Knauf Brio, Knauf develops a floor made of mechanically strong gypsum fibreboard, which stands for modernization and new construction for high sound and fire protection as well as fast assembly times.

2005: With Knauf Diamant, Knauf sets a milestone for high-quality drywall construction. The gypsum board combines sound insulation, fire protection, moisture protection and high surface hardness.

2005-2010

2008/2009: The first Knauf business days go on tour. The companies of the Knauf Group present their innovations to the experts at several locations throughout Germany. The concept has met with a great response in the industry. In 2013, a total of more than 17,000 visitors was reached.

2010: The special plasterboard Knauf Silentboard ensures exceptional performance in sound insulation.

2010: Knauf develops machine cleaning plaster MP75 Diamant, an innovative cleaning system for mechanically stressed surfaces.

2010-2015

2014: The surface-ready ceiling sail Knauf Cleaneo Up ensures good acoustics in an appealing design.

2014: The fire protection gypsum plaster MP 75 L Fire provides effective protection of constructions made of concrete, steel and reinforced concrete in case of fire.

2014: As a further development of the Knauf sliding door system, Knauf Pocket Kit opens up new dimensions.

2015: Knauf Pocket Kit Silent is the first sliding door system with integrated sound insulation.

2015: With Drystar, Knauf launches a coordinated complete system for private, public and commercial wet and humid areas.

2015: Socket SM Pro - the all-rounder for the base with integrated moisture protection. For the first time a material acts simultaneously as adhesive and reinforcing mortar, finishing plaster and sealing.

2015: The room climate family coordinated with Knauf Gipsputze creates a comfortable, pollutant-free, moisture-regulating living environment.

Since 2016

2016: With the mineral interior insulation system Knauf Rotkalk in-System, healthy living and high energy efficiency can be effectively and safely combined.

2016: The mineral Knauf MineralAktiv facade system offers comprehensive protection for permanently beautiful facades thanks to innovative binder technology.

2019: Knauf opens a training centre in Ghana.

2019: Incorporation of KNAUF Ghana and Inauguration of KNAUF Akademie in Accra, Ghana.
